Vinyl Flooring is commonly laid in commercial and high traffic areas due to its resilience and durability, however, vinyl has also become very common in residential housing due to modern designs, warmth & quietness underfoot, and is ideal for areas where easy cleaning and hygienic flooring solutions are desired. Not all vinyl is maintenance free though and requires proper care to maintain its resilience and attractive appearance.  Depending on the level of traffic and the environment in which the vinyl is situated will determine what level of maintenance the floor requires in order to maintain the desired look and feel and to keep the vinyl floor free from possible damage.

Over time, vinyl floors may lose their glossy appearance due to a build up of dirt and scratches on the surface layer of the floor.  A yellowish appearance may also become present in certain areas over time making the vinyl floor appear dirty & dull.  This doesn’t necessarily mean that the vinyl itself is dirty or damaged, but rather the surface coating on the floor has absorbed the dirt and damage.  Regular polishing will maintain the shiny and clean appearance of the vinyl for longer and protect the floor from wear and tear and stains.  The frequency of polishing is dependent upon the environment in which the vinyl is in.

It is important to know what type of vinyl you have as not all vinyl can be treated equally.  Some vinyl is very hard and can be easily scrubbed and polished using the polisher/ burnishing machine, however, the machine cannot be used on other softer types of vinyl.  It is up to the customer to have the name of the vinyl in order for us to ensure we meet the maintenance requirements of that particular type, if not obvious to us.
